A little French inspiration

Our friend Justine Schofield loves cooking – and eating – French food. Justine comes from a family of passionate French cooks and was taught how to cook some of her favourite dishes by her French mother and grandmother.

On her many visits to France, Justine explored her heritage and picked up some incredible knowledge and tips on French cuisine.

One of her favourite dishes to cook is crêpes. Really, you can’t get more French than that! Below Justine shares her delicious recipe for crepes with caramel apples. It’s the perfect recipe to make on Pancake Day, Tuesday 28th February.

When you’re cooking crêpes or pancakes, you’re going to need the right pan. And there’s none more French – or more perfect – than the Tefal Pleasure GV5. Made in France (naturally), this 25cm red pancake pan features Tefal’s famous Thermo-Spot heat indicator to tell you when it’s pre-heated to the right temperature. And the fact that it’s non-stick helps to make flipping those crêpes even easier!

Serves 4

INGREDIENTS

4 eggs
200g flour
250 ml milk
60g caster sugar + 70g sugar
50g butter, melted
2 green apples
Lemon zest
1 pinch cinnamon

METHOD

Sift the flour. Make a well in the middle and break eggs. Mix until combined and gradually add the milk, sugar, melted butter, lemon zest and cinnamon. Mix well to make sure there are no lumps.

Set aside.

In another pan add the remaining sugar and melt to make a caramel. Add peeled and quartered apples and cook for 10 minutes or until soft.

To make crepes, heat a pan and add oil, pour in a ladle full of crepe mix and spread around pan. Cook for 1 minute on each side.

To serve, fold crepes in quarters and spoon over some caramel apples. Add ice cream if you like!

Justine’s top tips for the perfect crepe!
1. Rest your batter overnight in the fridge
2. Invest in a good quality #crepe pan
3. Get the crepes as thin as possible by swirling the batter all the way to the edges
4. FLIP HIGH!

More cheese please!

We’d have to agree with Justine: “No party is complete without a few huge boards of delicious cheese, great friends and vino”. Sharing your favourite cheeses and a glass of wine with your special people surely is one of life’s greatest pleasures. And a little French, non?

The best way to hero all that gorgeous cheese is to start with the perfect board. We have a wide range to help you create your ultimate celebration of all things cheese!

Salt & Pepper’s Fromage 40cm cheese board and 50cm cheese paddle are French inspired and large enough to hold several cheeses, fruit, crackers and condiments. They’re made from Acacia wood and wipe clean easily.

Of course you’re going to need something to cut your cheese with. What could be more perfect than these colourful cheese knives by Laguiole? Their Sovereign rainbow 3-piece cheese knife set will add some French flair to your cheese board and if you’re a pâté lover, the 4-piece pâté knife set is just as fabulous.

The perfect match

Cheese and wine are a match made in heaven. So why not indulge in a glass of your favourite wine also?

Champagne and sparkling wine pair well with brie, camembert and other soft, creamy cheeses. These Casa Domani flutes are perfect for your bubbly. White wine pairs beautifully with mild and nutty flavoured medium bodied cheeses and Casa Domani’s white wine glasses are perfect for this.
